This End Up, Classic Queen Platform Bed, Finishing (Part II)

For a finish we decided to use MinWax Antique Oil Finish.
For the first coat we applied the finish liberally using Flat Foam Brushes. We immediately sanded using 3M 400-Grit Wet/Dry Sandpaper in order to work the finish into a slurry and into the wood.
After about five minutes we did a "wet buff" using finish soaked HDX Staining Pads. This made the coat even thicker.
After another ten to fifteen minutes we dry buffed with Cheese Cloth (again, can't have enough of this).
Keep in mind when buffing that if the surface is tacky you need to add a little bit more finish to buff, you do not want to be sticking to the wood.

First coat applied and more or less wiped with cheese cloth:

About ten or eleven hours later (much drying had occurred) we dry buffed it again, this time using Homax #4/0 (0000) Steel Wool Pads.
One of the problems with working against a wall like this, as opposed to a flat surface, is that some parts will have little concentrated streaks of finish. Just buff and buff hard.

After all pieces were buffed / sanded with the steel wool we applied a second coat.
Again we liberally applied the finish with foam brushes.
After about thirty to forty minutes we came back and buffed using the 0000 steel wool pads with  some finish and buffed everything.

This is what the pieces look like after that buffing:

Apologies about the shadows, but the work light is a harsh light.

Other things you probably want on hand are Playtex-ish gloves of some sort.
Also, citronella candles and a lighter are a good idea if working with an open door at night with mosquitoes about.

We left it to dry over night.
